Custom Wheel Builds
Despite the wide variety of inexpensive machine built wheels on the market, there is still nothing comparable to a well built custom wheel. Our mechanics care and precision results in a wheel that is built to a tolerance that isn't possible with a machine built wheel, and can last not just one season, but sometimes a whole lifetime of riding. Elite rider and Winner of the CreamPuff 100, Kevin Rowe, is one of the many riders who will vouch for our great wheel building skills.
Why should I get a custom wheel(set) instead of a stock wheelset?
Stock wheels are generally well made, but they are machine built and made for the masses. The benefits from a custom wheel are that the build takes into consideration your riding style, your body size, and even the climate you live in. The wheel(s) that you get from us will be catered to you and only you.
Woah. Thats sounds pretty cool, but how do you ACTUALLY make a wheel custom to the customer?
When we are building a wheel set for you we ask a bunch of questions that will help us determine the best parts to make the wheel. Such as how many spokes needed, and what kind of spokes, to the width and weight of the rims and the style of hubs (Loose ball, sealed bearing etc...)
What makes your wheels so much better then any other shops custom wheels?
At Joy Ride Bicycles we have invested in both our mechanics and the equipment that they use. Our Mechanics have built thousands of wheels, each one to the highest standards possible. These standards are achieved with help from our precision truing stands, Swiss made spoke tension gauges and last but not least, the only non commercial spoke destressing table in the industry. These tools and the experience of our mechanics create wheels with the tightest possible tolerance, and with fully stressed
and bedded spokes. All of these things together provide for the best custom wheel build.
