Why? Unfortunately, one of the biggest local spring gravel events in the local area has gone on hiatus this year. Joy Ride has heard your feedback and is stepping in to help fill the void in your gravel calendar with the Easterpalooza - Capitol Grinder!
What? We have put together two extremely challenging routes for this unsanctioned, unsupported and self-timed event. You are going to face some of the fiercest climbs the Capitol Forest has to offer. They have not even been included in that other Capitol Forest Gravel event you may have done. You will soon find out why.
When and Where? Join us April 11th at 9:00 am in the Rock Candy Trailhead Parking Lot. This will be a mass start event. Route briefing will start at 8:45 with time for any last minute questions. There is a bathroom at the start, please bring a Discover Pass for parking.
How? There is no official timing, we'll roll at 9:00 but it is up to you to keep track of your time and let us know how you did. We will compile results if you are into that kind of thing. Rules of the road apply for this ride. The forest roads are open to traffic so you need to be aware of this. The Heavy Route will cross Highway 8 twice near the start of the ride. Use common sense when doing so. You will not get your fastest time on the beginning stretch of the ride, so take it easy crossing the road. Besides, enjoy the start on Summit Lake Road, because the climb the comes after that will be where the real work begins.
Later that afternoon, there will be a post-ride gathering at Oly Tap Room in downtown Olympia at 4 pm. We will draw random names for prizes for those who rode and completed the event of their choice. Proof of completion required. There will also be a special prize for the fastest time up to Capitol Peak (from the gate) for the day, but you have to be on Strava and have uploaded your ride to be eligible for that one.

Disclaimer: Routes may be modified as needed if we come across anything taking away from the fun factor. But we'll let you know beforehand.
And if you have read this far, maybe, just maybe there will be someone with easter eggs in the forest on the day of the event, you never know what you might find...
