It’s that time of year in the Capitol Forest where you can tie it all together – gravel roads, mountain bike trails, moto trails and paved roads. What that means is it is time for “FKT Capitol Forest.” What does FKT stand for? For some, it means Funnest Known Time, for others Fastest Known Time, but no matter what it means, riding bikes is what it is all about to us. The idea for our route first came about last summer after finding a similar ride in Boulder, Colorado when COVID was preventing us all from riding together, so we created our own nearby route, unleased it to you and you all went after it on your own. It was awesome to see so many tackle the challenge.
This year, we are fortunate enough to be able to ride together again but it is not going to stop us from unleashing the original route again this year with a few changes to keep things spicey. We also remember how smokey it was last year when we unveiled the route and some may not have gotten to do it. Well now is your chance!
What does this route have in store? Along the way you are going to visit the Divide and McKenny Trails, tackle miles upon miles of gravel, even relax a bit with some paved roads as you ride along the forest foothills near Mount Molly, tackle Puke Hill and visit Capitol Peak and the proper Larch Mountain summit after which you have a ripping descent along Rock Candy Mountain back to the start. Just under 40 miles. Nearly 5,000 ft of vertical. The route has been pre-ridden. It is bumpy, dry, and lose out there but it is oh, so fun. You will slip, you might slide, you may have to hop off and walk in spots. It is going to be an adventure. We cannot say gravel or mountain bike would be better, that is up for you to decide. All you have to do is download the route to your favorite navigation device and head out there.
We almost forgot, well not really, but there will be PRIZES. But you have to prove you rode the route and then send us a picture or pictures taken during your adventure (email, instagram, facebook, airdrop at the shop, etc.). Proof could be your ride downloaded to Strava or pictures from everywhere along the way. Be sure to tag us in your photos with #joyridebikes and #fktcapitolforest then we will choose the best photos and determine the winners. Top Prize is a $50 Joy Ride Gift Card. Second Place is a Joy Ride Beanie. Third Place will get two Joy Ride water bottles. You have all of August to do the ride!
