| Have you heard the news? It looks like Plus Size is here to stay, and we're pretty OK with that. The way we see it, if adding a new tire size, or wheel size ect.. makes it so that there are more ways to have fun on a bike then we're on board. And Plus Size does just that. What is Plus Size you ask? Plus size is the answer to a question that never got asked. And for once thats a good thing. Plus size is an attempt to blend the high volume, high traction, floaty characteristics of a fat bike with the twitchy, nibble, quick handling of a standard size wheel. And quite frankly it was a pretty great attempt. See Figure. 1 (bellow) for a comprehensive digram comparing the volume differences between the Standar, Plus and Fat tire sizes. Mountain biking is full of fads, isn't this just another one? Maybe, but we're having fun with it for as long as it's around. Realistically though it looks like Plus is here to stay. We are stocking models of plus size bike from Norco (Torrent), Scott (Scale and Genius) and soon Jamis bikes as well. When that many companies get behind something you can bet you'll be seeing it for a while. Alright cool, but whats it ACTUALLY good for? You know when you're cruising around Capitol Forest and the mud is so thick your moving at about 2mph? You know how those conditions last about 6 months out of the year? Yuuuuuup. Plus size skates right across that mud like it's nobody's business. All that snow above 1500'? Same thing. Plus size handles those sloppy conditions almost as well as a fat bike, and stays quicker out the gate and more nimble on the downs. You just can't beat that! |  The Norco Torrent 7.1 recently took the top honors in the MTB UK Semi-Fat Shoot Out. We weren't surprised. |
