Fall just would not be the same without gravel rides. With that being said, Gravelpalooza, our organized shop no-drop* gravel ride is back!
The first ride of the season will leave from Margaret McKenny Campground in the Capitol Forest Saturday October 15th at 9 am. The ride will be a bit under 30 miles with over 3,000 ft of climbing. We will start with some singletrack (nothing too technical) and then make our way onto the gravel roads weaving our way to the paved D-Line (aka Bordeaux Road) as we head to the big challenge for the day, the D-3000. Sustained Uphill is the name of the game with this stretch for the first 3 miles, then it rolls down and back up for a few miles before we top out at the high point for the day where hopefully we are rewarded with mountain views. From there we have a long gravel descent to where we exit the forest and take the paved Sherman Valley and Waddell Creek roads back to the start.
Parking: Margaret McKenny Campground has quite a few parking spots, but there are spots at Middle Waddell Trailhead and also the intersection of Sherman Valley and Waddell Creek roads, so those can be used as well and they are not too far from the start. Just leave yourself time to roll downhill to the start if you choose to park there.
*Even though these are no-drop rides, we encourage riders that attend to come with a solid level of fitness. Riding gravel in and around the Capitol Forest is challenging to say the least. Additionally, now is the time to make sure your bike is ready (shifting working smoothly, fresh tubeless sealant, you have a multi-tool, a few links of chain and master link, etc.)
If you have any questions, be sure to call or email the shop.
