We had about 18 people show up for an "Intro to Bikepacking" clinic a week before the event. Tons of bikepacking information permeated the air in the shop, but food and drinks combined with discussions helped make the night fun and enjoyable. Folks left with fresh ideas, thoughts of personal grandeur and aspiring goals!
The actual event took place a week following the clinic. It was an overnight trip that left from West Olympia and ended at Porter Campground on the west side of Capitol Forest. We had 12 total riders, mostly local, with the exception of a person venturing down from Seattle on her first dirt road ride as well as bikepacking experience! She had commented how there was nothing like this in the shops up near her.
There were two routes on Day 1, long and short, which worked out phenomenally to accommodate various riders fitness and abilities. Day 2 was one route with options to cut it short if needed. In short, the weather was perfect, camping was supreme, company was unrivaled and there was a magical cooler full of beverages of all kinds at the campsite!
We were stoked on the success and stoke-factor of this trip, and will be doing another one with an accompanying clinic again next year. Stay Tuned!
