GRAVELPALOOZA - NOVEMBER EDITION - LINCOLN CREEK

11/8/2023

Atmospheric river getting you down? Cheer up because that means it's GRAVELPALOOZA season! Join us for the second Gravelpalooza of the season at the Lincoln Creek Grange on November 11. We will start the ride introduction at 10 am and roll out a few minutes after. Parking is extremely limited so please carpool. You are welcome to get in touch with any of the ride leaders about catching a ride.

The spirit of Gravelpalooza is to get out on our bikes all winter and suffer through the rain, snow, wind, and mud together. After the ride, we share snacks and warm beverages. Bring warm clothes to change into and a mug or thermos.

We'll have at least two route options for most of our rides, a long route, and a DIY short route. Riders are expected to have the route downloaded to their phone or bike computer (there is no service in many places we ride), scrawled on their skin or paper, and accessible to them. As a rule, courses will not be marked. Remember, we're volunteers.

See below for the regular and short versions of the routes.

If you want more mileage, you can join Brad Whidden at Swede Hall in Rochester to ride to the ride!

DISCLAIMER *Even though these are 'no-drop' rides, for the safety of all, we ask that riders come with a solid level of fitness. Riding gravel is physically demanding and weather conditions can be challenging to say the least. If you are in doubt about your fitness, we recommend that you try the short route first. We will have a ride sweep that makes sure no one gets dropped but they will ask that you turn back or take a shorter route if you can't stay connected with the back of the pack.*

Now is the time to make sure your bike is ready (shifting working smoothly, fresh tubeless sealant, you have a multi-tool, a few links of chain and master link, etc.)

If you have any questions, be sure to call, email the shop or visit the following link to get in touch with ride leaders:

After the summer hiatus from riding roads in the woods we are happy and excited for the return of Gravelpalooza!!

Joy Ride has been facilitating gravel/adventure rides in the area for many years. If you can remember back to the early days of “gravel” Joy Ride was at the forefront of riding in Capital Forest and other areas around town. We even had our own show to highlight some of the fun and adventures we undertook. Remember Tim’s World? We do!! Check the bottom of the post for a Tim's World throw back!

Gravelpalooza kicks off with a nice season warm up starting from the upper lot of the Mima Falls Trailhead. A little singletrack gravel and pavement get us started into the season, We always strive to never leave anyone behind and we will have someone at the back of the group making sure we all get to the finish. It is a best practice to have the route downloaded onto your cycling computer so that you know where the turns are in case you happen to be out ahead of everyone.

Make sure your bike is ready to go and that you have enough fluid and nutrition to get you through the ride distance, Extra food is always good and also having tools and spare parts to get any mechanical that you might have fixed and get you back on the gravel adventure.

See everyone at 10am October 7th at the Mima Falls Trailhead,
